You’re so strong.
I’ve heard it often after becoming a suddenly single mom and widow.
I know the truth. Maybe it looks strong on the outside, but I see the inside — the struggles, fear, failures and utter weakness.
I know all the ways life has changed and the ways I wish it were different.
I see the gaps in my parenting and the pain my kids are navigating that I can’t fix. I feel the weight of hundreds of decisions and boy do I know the loneliness that sets in after kids are in bed and the house grows quiet at night.
But I also know prayer.
I know what might look strong on the outside is this girl bringing every weakness to God in prayer.
The upside to having struggles, fear and weakness is that ig consistently drives me to God.
It would be easy to phone a friend when I need help with a decision or binge social media to numb the isolation. While I’ve done both, they aren’t what I really need.
I’ve learned to go to God to bridge the gaps, to guide my decisions and to fill me when loneliness sets in.
Prayer has become a lifeline for me.
Prayers when you feel alone and weak can become an ongoing conversation between you and God.
My conversation usually starts when the alarm goes off and I’ve got a day with a too-long to-do list or I’m facing a another scary new step and continues throughout the day — prayer to help me untangle emotions in parenting, discern steps forward, overcome incapability or push through weariness.
Some prayers are so deep I can’t even give them words. Others I take to God again and again, begging Him to change me or change my circumstances. Some prayers breathed silently in my journals and others are prayed outloud with a friend.
God hears every prayer.
And time and time again, I’ve seen God’s personal, practical answers.
If you need strength from God today? Use these 10 scriptures and prayers when you feel alone and weak. Pray them as is, personalize them with your name or use the scriptures to pray God’s Word back to Him.
10 Prayers When You Feel Alone and Weak
1. Prayer when You Fear
Lord, single parenting has opened the door to a host of new fears. When I’m tempted to worry about my future, my finances or my children, remind me of Your faithfulness and help me trust You in this season. I give you my anxiety and take Your easy yoke and Your peace.
Even though I walk through the darkest valley, I will not be afraid, for you are close beside me. Your rod and your staff protect and comfort me. Psalm 23:4
2. Prayer when You’re Overwhelmed
Oh, Lord, as I look at the sheer number of daunting tasks on my plate — raising my children, managing the house, doing my work, taking care of bills and more — I am overwhelmed. Steady my heart and renew my energy. Order my steps to accomplish Your will today and trust You with what I don’t get to.
From the end of the earth I will cry to You, when my heart is overwhelmed; lead me to the rock that is higher than I. Psalm 61:2
3. Prayer for a Broken Heart
Lord, I am hurting. I am grieving a broken heart and broken dreams. Comfort me as only You can. I put my hope in the promise that You heal the brokenhearted and bind up wounds. Let me see joy and beauty in the midst of this pain.
Those who sow with tears will reap with songs of joy. Those who go out weeping, carrying seed to sow, will return with songs of joy, carrying sheaves with them. Psalm 126:5-6
4. Prayer when You Face Hard Decisions
God, you’ve promised to give wisdom generously when we ask so I ask for clarity, insight and guidance on this decision before me. Open my ears to hear You clearly and give me a heart ready to obey Your answer.
I will instruct you and teach you in the way you should go; I will counsel you with my loving eye on you. Psalm 32:8
5. Prayer for Your Children
God, please help my children love You and love others. Hem them in behind and before, give them a hunger for Your Word and use this painful season to make them more like Jesus. Give them discernment to know what’s best and strength to carry it out.
Jesus replied: “‘Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind.’ This is the first and greatest commandment. And the second is like it: ‘Love your neighbor as yourself. Matthew 22:37-39
6. Prayer to Let Go of the Past
Lord, this is not the story I wanted but I trust You. Help me open both hands to You to let go of what I can’t control, of any bitter root and the things I desperately wanted in life. I trust You have goodness, love and abundance in this chapter where You’ve placed me.
Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding; in all your ways submit to him, and he will make your paths straight. Proverbs 3:5-6
7. Prayer to Do Hard Things
God, I cannot do this. This is too hard. You are my only hope and so I cast myself and the tasks You’ve set before me on You. I give You my weakness and ask for Your strength to do what I cannot. I praise You because all things are possible with You.
I can do all this through him who gives me strength. Philippians 4:13
8. Prayer for Financial Needs
Dear God, You promise to meet all of my needs. You are the God who clothes the lilies of the field in splendor and takes care of the smallest sparrow. You have faithfully met every one of my needs. No good thing have you withheld from me. I thank You in advance for taking care of this need as well and I praise You for doing more than I could ask or imagine.
And my God will meet all your needs according to the riches of his glory in Christ Jesus. Philippians 4:19
9. Prayer for You’re Lonely
You know, Jesus, what it is to be alone. You have endured way more loneliness and pain than I ever will. I ask You to comfort me, to keep me through this and to lift my head and heart. Be my soul satisfaction and keep me from filling the ache of loneliness with anything that would take me far from You.
May our Lord Jesus Christ himself and God our Father, who loved us and by his grace gave us eternal encouragement and good hope, encourage your hearts and strengthen you in every good deed and word. 2 Thessalonians 2:16-17
10. Prayer for Your Future
Dear Lord, I give You every one of my tomorrows. You have already written them in Your book before one of them came to be. You are trustworthy, You are good and You do good. Help me find deep joy, abundance and purpose in the way You take me.
The thief comes only to steal and kill and destroy. I came that they may have life and have it abundantly. John 10:10

This is a beautiful post, Lisa. Your intro pulled me in because people have said the same thing to me: ‘You’re so strong,” and I think “Oh no, I’m not!”
Loved this prayer especially: Lord, this is not the story I wanted but I trust You. Help me open both hands to You to let go of what I can’t control, of any bitter root and the things I desperately wanted in life. I trust You have goodness, love and abundance in this chapter where You’ve placed me.

Yes! Goodness knows how many times I prayed that, giving God what I wanted and trusting Him for what He has for me. Thank you, friend.

Thankyou for your post; so encouraging when I struggle with doubts regarding how my life ended up as a widow and continue when kids are growing up with their own family dynamics and some falls back on me. Sometimes I feel like I’m in a corner all by myself. Thank you for love and support.

I feel like fiery darts are hitting me from all angles right now. I am full of anger and hate and I know that is Satan, I pray to you Lord and people that “know” God to take this evil mood and these nasty emotions. I ask Lord that you take Satan’s fiery darts out of my heart, my soul and rebuke the anger and pending rage that is within me right now.
In Jesus name I pray/AMEN
